You have probably heard about Verizon's merge with Alltel (if not you can read all about it here), But Verizon announced today a deal with CBS, which secured the retransmission rights for CBS owned and operated television stations. This means that Verizon can Retransmit CBS shows over there video-on-demand (part of there FIOS TV packaged), though there Internet services, and Verizen VCast Video service as well (in case you don't know, VCast is Verizon's mobile entertainment system). CBS seems ecstatic over the deal. "We are extremely pleased to have reached this broad long-term agreement that recognizes the value of our programming," said Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Corporation. "Verizon subscribers will have continued access to the Number One TV network not only though Fios TV, but also through VCast on the mobile phone, which enhances our profile on a key emerging platform." In addition to the CBS content already available on VCast, Verizon says that its mobile rights grant them use of full episodes from Prime-Time, Daytime, And 60 Minutes. The video-on-demand rights for programs will include titles like: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, NCIS, Survivor, and Numb3rs, as well as local news.
