Mac OS X Snow Leopard: Drag & Drop till You Drop Dead
Today I've been watching the keynote presentation from Apple's World Wide Developer's conference and while I've heard all about the new iPhone G3 S and all about the new Macbooks, the thing that I'm especially interested in is the new Operating system that will be released soon. During the demo, the presenter describes some new features/refinements to Expose, which is actually a pretty cool feature in OS X. He show's how you can select any window in an application simply by clicking and holding it's icon in the Dock. When you do that, all the windows of that application immediately come into focus. Pretty cool, but you can already basically select any window in an app simply by right clicking or clicking and holding on the application. However, in their innovation, Apple goes one step further. Not only can you click and hold an application, you can also drag content (for instance a video or an image) into a file window. This is really cool and I could see how this feature could save me tons of time. For instance, how often are you working on an email and you need to attach a photo or another file to the email. You already have that file in a window in the Finder. But you have to go to the attach file menu, go through your directories and files until you get to it, click the button to attach the file and finally you've got it. In Snow Leopard, simply click on the Finder application, go to the window with the file in it, grab it and then drag it to the mail application, then into the email that you were working on. Much simpler and much faster.
